Two-Factor Authentication

With two-factor authentication, signing in to SurveyNinja with your email and password takes two steps: your password and a six-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. Even if someone learns your password, they cannot sign in without the code.

You need an authenticator app, for example Google Authenticator for Android or iPhone. Other apps that generate time-based codes also work.

Note. Setup asks for your current account password. If you signed up with Google and never set a password, set one first in Profile → Password.

Turning on two-factor authentication

1. Click your profile icon in the top right corner and choose Profile.
2. In Sign-in and security, click Two-Factor Authentication (1).
   
3. In the Authentication Required window, enter your current password (1) and click Confirm (2).
   
4. In the authenticator app, add a new account and scan the QR code from the window (1). If you cannot scan it, enter the Key shown under the QR code (2). Click the key to copy it.
5. Type the six-digit code from the app into the field (3) and click Continue (4).
   
6. The Authentication recovery code window shows eight recovery codes. Click Copy or Download to save them, then click Close.
   

Two-factor authentication is now on. In your profile, the Two-Factor Authentication row shows Connected.

Important. Keep the recovery codes in a password manager or another safe place. They are the only way to sign in on your own if you lose the phone with the authenticator app.

Signing in with a code

After you enter your email and password, the Identity verification screen opens. Enter the six-digit code from the authenticator app. The code is checked as soon as you type the last digit.

If you don't have your phone:

1. Click Don't have access to Authenticator?
2. Enter one of your recovery codes and click Login.

Each recovery code works only once. If you have no recovery codes left, click No recovery code? and send a message to support from the form that opens.

Getting new recovery codes

1. Open Profile and click Two-Factor Authentication.
2. Click Generate new recovery code.
3. Enter your password and click Generate codes.

The new codes replace the old ones, so the old codes stop working. Save the new set right away.

Turning off two-factor authentication

1. Open Profile and click Two-Factor Authentication.
2. Click Disable 2FA.
3. Enter your password and click Disable.

After that, you sign in with your password only. You can remove the SurveyNinja entry from the authenticator app.
