Where top box is used
CSAT
Usually top-2 of 5: scores 4 and 5. CSAT% = (4+5) / total × 100%.
NPS
Promoters = top-2 of 11 (scores 9–10). Detractors = bottom (0–6). NPS = % promoters − % detractors.
Custom scales
For 1–7 or 0–10 scales you can use top-2 or top-3 depending on methodology.
When to use
In reports and dashboards, top-box share is clear for business. For benchmarks and trends, fix the definition (top-2 or top-3) and keep it consistent when comparing.
