Weighted score calculator

Build a final score when criteria matter differently: price, ease of use, trust, speed, service quality or fit for the task.

Weighted score — an average in which each criterion affects the result in proportion to its weight.

How the weighted score is calculated

Formula

Weighted score = sum(score × weight) / sum of weights.

Score

The rating of a criterion on one common scale, for example 1–10 or 0–100.

Weight

How much a criterion matters. Percentages or any relative weights work.

Result

The final score helps compare options when the criteria were agreed on in advance.

Calculation examples

1 Product concept evaluation

Value: 8, weight 40
Clarity: 6, weight 25
Novelty: 9, weight 20
The result shows the overall potential of the concept, weighted by the criteria that matter most.

2 Feature prioritization

Impact: 9, weight 50
Effort: 4, weight 25
Risk: 7, weight 25
The formula replaces arguing about a favorite feature with a comparison on explicit weights.

What to avoid

  1. Choosing weights after the result Fix the weights before calculating, otherwise the score is easy to bend toward the answer you want.
  2. Mixing scales If one criterion is scored 1–5 and another 0–100, normalize the values first.
  3. Treating the score as the only truth A weighted score helps compare options but does not replace a discussion of risks and context.
